The purpose of this page is to outline the activities of the Social Chair and designees in facilitating the social atmosphere and health of the Club.

Post-Match Socials
The Social Chair works with our social or sponsor bar (previously The Social, which is unfortunately no longer in business) to arrange all elements of home socials. The contact person at the social bar should be provided with a schedule for home games as soon as it is available. The Social Chair should also confirm the estimated start time of each home social, as this may be earlier than the typical opening time of these establishments, and request additional staff coverage if needed.
The Social Chair should make advance arrangements for beverages and food; a supply of beer and a reasonable amount of food for each player (including Eno players and social members, the opposing team, and the referee) should be provided at each home social. The Social Chair may make arrangements with the social bar's contact person to receive an in-kind food or beverage donation, and may wish to work with the Fundraising Chair to provide appropriate incentives within a sponsorship arrangement.
In the past, food has consisted of pizza from Domino’s (down the street from the social). The social chair would pick up the food and pay for it using the team debit card, or their own money to be reimbursed by the team using the expense request procedure. More recently, the team has borrowed a player’s grill and had a cookout in the Social parking lot. This is a more cost-effective option but requires more planning and effort. The Social Chair can assign cooking duties to any player.
The Social Chair should submit a proposed budget to the Treasurer each season to ensure financial coverage. It is the responsibility of the Social Chair to remain within this budget; additional out-of-pocket expenses which are not approved in advance may not be reimbursed.
The Social Chair may assign a theme for home socials, and should communicate this to Eno and the opposing team. The Social Chair can also work with other team leaders such as Coaches, Captains and veteran players to coordinate singing rugby songs, and with Member at Large to teach songs to new players.
Other Events
The Social Chair is encouraged to arrange additional events such as an annual fun run/bar crawl during the winter off-season, Durham Bulls games and other local athletic events, paint nights, or other group activities which build camaraderie and promote inclusion of all Eno members. Off-the-barstool events (those at which drinking alcohol are not a primary focus) are encouraged in order to maintain a healthy balance.
Monthly get-togethers are the target, however, this can be difficult during the rugby season when practices and matches take up much of players' time.
Philanthropy
The bylaws dictate that the Social Chair should arrange at least one philanthropic event per year, however, the more the merrier! Previous events have included volunteering , donation drives, or fundraising events in partnership with:
LUEWWD (including Bloodsport)
Keep Durham Beautiful
Ronald McDonald House (holiday cardmaking)
Food Bank of Eastern and Central NC
Durham Rescue Mission
Merritt Pitbull Foundation
Beyond Fences
Habitat for Humanity
Consider partnerships with Tobacco Road Rugby whenever feasible to increase participation and impact.
Social Membership
The Social Chair is responsible for administration of the Social Membership program. This includes assisting the President with record-keeping of Social Members, reminding Social Members to pay dues, providing membership cards and other incentives such as team merchandise discounts, and ensuring adequate food/beverage availability at home socials and events for the inclusion of Social Members.
